Certified Birth Doula in Calhoun Hannah at Atlanta Birth Collective

Hi, my name is Yvonne, but my friends call me Yaya! I am a mom of two girls, a photographer, birth doula, coffee drinker, DIY enthusiast, and born-and-raised GA girl with Falcons football running through my veins.

My own journey to becoming a doula started with the birth of my first child in 2020. It was during the height of COVID and I was becoming a mom for the first time. After experiencing a miscarriage during a previous pregnancy, I was understandably scared and I was carrying a lot of fear into that pregnancy in general. We decided to hire a doula and the support that she gave me completely changed my experience. She listened. She gave me information when I needed answers and encouragement when I needed confidence. But most importantly, she reminded me that I had a voice, and that my voice mattered. That experience never really left me. Eventually, I realized I wanted to be that person for other families, too. The doula who supported me through both of my births has since become my mentor, and getting to step into this work myself feels pretty special and maybe a little surreal. I’m a good listener and good at reading the room. I have a laid-back style. I’m not the doula who’s going to walk into your birth with a checklist and tell you how things should go. I’m there to meet you where you are. Maybe you have a very specific birth plan or maybe you have absolutely no idea what you want. Or maybe you just want to enjoy the journey as it comes. All of those are okay. My job is to listen, support, educate, encourage, and help you feel like you have someone in your corner. As a photographer, I’ve spent years mastering the ability to watch closely and notice little details, and knowing when to step in and when to simply let a moment happen. I bring that same observational approach into my doula work. Yes, I can totally bring my camera. When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me with my husband and our girls, working on a DIY project, and drinking coffee while pretending I have my life together. Sometimes you need encouragement. Sometimes you need information. Sometimes you need someone to make you laugh. And sometimes you just need someone sitting beside you saying, “I got you.”
